Zora Thoms, a beloved mother, grandmother, and cherished friend, passed away peacefully on October 27, 2026. Born on August 13, 1935, in Oak Park, Illinois, Zora was the cherished daughter of Theodore and Zora Waschbusch. She was predeceased by her loving parents, her devoted husband Ronald, and her beloved son Steven.
Zora's life was a beautiful tapestry of love, family, and community. She married the love of her life, Ronald Thoms, on November 19th, 1955, and together they built a warm and welcoming home, raising two wonderful children, Steve and Jody. Zora's nurturing spirit and unwavering devotion to her family were the cornerstones of her life.
Zora was a dedicated and hardworking individual, spending 16 years as a valued employee at Dominick's where she was celebrated as "Checker of the Year" for two consecutive years. Her professional achievements were matched only by her deep sense of community service and a heartfelt calling to help those in need. In 1978, she retired, and together with Ronald, made the picturesque move to Estes Park, Colorado, fulfilling a shared dream inspired by their love for nature and wildlife.
A pillar of her community, Zora was an active member of Mt. Calvary Church in Estes Park, where she found joy and purpose in serving others. Her faith and commitment to her church family were evident in her everyday actions and her kindness touched the lives of many.
Zora's hobbies and interests reflected her vibrant spirit. She was a great lover of family celebrations, birthdays, and holidays, always eager to bring her family together in joyful gatherings. Her home was a sanctuary for loved ones, filled with warmth, laughter, and the delightful presence of her cherished Black Labs.
She is survived by her brother, Jim Waschbusch and his wife Joann, her daughter Jody Steckline and son-in-law Don, and her daughter-in-law Ladonna Thoms. Zora found immense pride and joy in her grandchildren, Cally Grado (Zak), Bradley Thoms (Sarah), Adrienne Welch (Dez), and Donny Steckline (Kara), and her great-grandchildren, Killian, Wade, Kehlani, Santiago, Jacob, Rienne, Rowan, Brynn, and Rhett. She also leaves behind a precious great-great-grandchild, Kutter, who brought an additional sparkle to her life.
The family kindly requests that in lieu of flowers, donations be made in Zora's memory to Mount Calvary Lutheran Church in Estes Park, or to the Pet Association of Estes Park, reflecting her love for her community and animals.
Zora Thoms will be remembered for her compassionate nature, her love of family, and her unwavering faith. Her legacy lives on in the hearts of her family and all who were fortunate enough to know her. She will be deeply missed, forever loved, and never forgotten.
A memorial service will be held on November 20, 2026, at 11:00 AM at Mount Calvary Lutheran Church in Estes Park, Colorado.
