Victoria Rose Trujillo

Victoria Rose Trujillo, 61, passed away peacefully in her sleep on August 4, 2026, following a courageous and painful battle with Parkinson’s Disease and Dystonia.

Affectionately known as "Vicky" or "Peanut," she was born on August 8, 1964, in Montrose, Colorado. She grew up as the cherished baby sister of the large Trujillo family in Ouray, Colorado. As a teenager, Vicky worked typical local jobs, cashiering at the Ouray Hot Springs and cleaning rooms for local hotels. While attending Ouray High School, she was well-known for cheering on the school's basketball team. This passion for cheerleading stayed with her throughout life, as she always cheered the loudest for her children and grandchildren.

Though she hoped to study geology in college, God had a different path for Vicky. After marrying and moving to Denver, Vicky welcomed her first child, Vale Michelle, on Halloween night in 1983. Her son, Matthew Tyler, completed the family a couple of years later, born on St. Patrick’s Day in 1986. The family lived in Englewood, Colorado, before relocating to Highlands Ranch, Colorado. Vicky dedicated years of service to the University of Denver in the admissions department before transitioning to a meaningful career in the non-profit sector. She brought her talents and care to organizations including the Society for Mining, Metallurgy & Exploration, and the Society for Range Management.

Following her divorce in 2007, Vicky found great comfort and joy in a wonderful circle of friends who shared her favorite pastime: country western dancing. She loved the music and the movement, and Vicky could be found nearly every weekend boot-scootin' in a country western bar somewhere around the state of Colorado.

Following the COVID-19 pandemic, Vicky returned to her roots in Ouray to care for her mother, Rebecca, and to be closer to her beloved grandchildren. While living back home, she worked at the Ouray School to maximize her time with them. Vicky was a fixture at nearly every one of her grandchildren's academic and sporting events. Even when her health meant she could no longer drive, she never missed a game or milestone, thanks to the dedicated and loving support of her brother, Rick Trujillo. Though her health struggles brought immense challenges in her final years, she faced them with the same fierce love and resilience she gave to her family.

Vicky is reunited in heaven with her parents, Seferino "Sam" Trujillo and Maria Rebecca "Becky" Trujillo, as well as her brother, Jody Trujillo, and her sister, Georgia Pesicka.

Her legacy of loud cheers, devotion, and love lives on through her children, Vale Michelle (Justin Hirt) and Matthew Tyler; her cherished grandchildren, Mikayla Grace (2011) and Cashton James (2013); and her surviving siblings: Richard Trujillo, John Trujillo, Sandra Kropuenske, Daniel Trujillo, Ronald Trujillo, Mark Trujillo, Mary Bosch, and Clifford Trujillo. She also leaves behind an extended family of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends who will miss her deeply.

A celebration of life will be held in Ouray at a later date this summer. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that you please consider making a memorial donation in Vicky's honor to the Colorow Care Center in Olathe or the HopeWest Care Center in Grand Junction.
