Tina Lynn Mata

April 10, 1962 — May 9, 2024

Montrose

Tina Lynn Mata is off to a peaceful place with no more pain or suffering. She lost her battle to terminal cancer on 5/9/24, at the age of 62.  She was surrounded by her closest family and loved ones at her home in Montrose, CO.

She was a lover of arts and crafts, always working on some new project.  She was very ambitious and had to be busy all the time.  She loved her plants and animals and rescued them any chance she could.  Her favorite color was purple.  One of her favorite sayings was “You can do it!” (But you have to imagine her saying it with a Louisianna accent like in the Adam Sandler movie, Water Boy).   She was fiercely independent and liked to do things her own way.  Right up to the very end, she didn’t even let death boss her around.

Most of all, she loved taking care of anyone or anything in need.  She was like a mother to so many more than just her own kids. Her loving nature was never judgmental, but always unconditional love. She leaves behind 6 children, 11 grandkids, and 3 great grand babies. Her partner in crime, Billy, has 2 children, 2 grandkids, and 1 great grand baby that she loved as her own, plus countless others.

She faced many trials, always with strength and a smile. This tenacious woman was widowed twice before reconnecting with her high school sweetheart. After her first battle with cancer, and surviving a stem cell transplant in 2012, we were so blessed to have another twelve bonus years with her.

She is our hero, and her legacy will live on in the bravery, humor, strength, and love that she leaves in each of our hearts.
