Thomas Lee Kimble

Thomas Lee Kimble, aged 82, passed away peacefully on February 8, 2024, at Elk Ridge in Montrose, Colorado. Born on June 26, 1941, in Denver, Colorado, to Sherman F. and Helen M. Kimble, Tom was a beloved son, veteran, and a cherished member of his community.

From his adventurous childhood in Wyoming and Colorado to his later years, Tom’s life was a tapestry of vibrant experiences. His early love for the outdoors, exemplified by memories at his father’s ranch and roller skating in Hotchkiss, evolved into a passion for touring the country on his Harley Davidson and working as a wildcat on an oil rig, until a severe accident marked the end of his professional journey.

Despite the challenges he faced, Tom’s spirit remained unbroken. He spent his later years at Elk Ridge, where his presence was a source of joy and inspiration. He was known for his love of bingo at the Elk’s Lodge and his storytelling during tours around Montrose with his best friend, Anthony.

Tom cherished his neighbors and the sense of community they shared. He enjoyed simple pleasures like sitting on the street curb, sharing green chili, and basking in the warmth of the sun or the coolness of the shade. His neighbors reciprocated this affection, often bringing treats, home-grown tomatoes, fruits, and desserts. A testament to the love and respect he garnered, the neighborhood once organized a birthday BBQ party for Tom and Anthony, complete with gifts and a chorus of ‘Happy Birthday,’ a memory that highlighted the community spirit he so deeply valued.

Tom’s bold, outspoken nature, coupled with his resilience and joy for life, left a lasting impression on everyone he met. His favorite sky blue color and Easter lilies mirrored his vibrant and spirited personality.

As we bid farewell to Tom, we remember a man whose life was as colorful as the stories he told. His legacy of courage, joy, and community spirit will continue to inspire all who knew him.

A celebration of Tom’s life was held at Elk Ridge on March 16, 2024.

Tom’s story of bravery, warmth, and an enduring spirit will forever be cherished by those who had the privilege of knowing him.
