Nicki Jeanne Cameron (Evans)

December 29, 1947 — October 22, 2023

Nicki Cameron passed away Sunday, October 22, 2023, at her home in Montrose, Colorado, with her loving husband at her side. She was 75 years old and had lived in Montrose for 44 years.
Nicki Jeanne (Evans) Cameron was born in Berkeley, California, on December 29, 1947, to parents Donald and Rosamond Evans. She spent her childhood in southern California and moved, with her parents, to Yreka, California, as a teenager. There, she met and fell in love with Jeff Cameron. They were married in Yreka on February 4, 1967, and spent some time in Yreka before moving to Sacramento where Nicki worked for the telephone company while Jeff attended college. The couple then moved to Corvallis, Oregon, where Nicki again got a job with the phone company and Jeff worked for the Forest Service and attended graduate school. After four years in Corvallis, they moved to Coos Bay, Oregon, where Nicki, once again, got on with the phone company and Jeff had a position with the federal government. They had made several moves over the years before moving to Montrose, Colorado, on July 19, 1979. They thought they would only be in Montrose for a few years before moving on. That didn’t happen. They stayed here and Nicki spent several years with Colorado Ute as Executive Secretary. When Colorado Ute relocated to Denver, Nicki stayed in Montrose and worked for the Federal Land Bank (later known as Farm Credit Services) and the couple purchased a ranch in Bostwick Park. They built their dream home in 2004, and Nicki retired in 2012. They then became ranchers/farmers and were able to live their dream for many years thereafter. Their final move was back to Montrose in 2021 after they sold their ranch.
Nicki was loved by all who knew her and is leaving a hole in the hearts of many that can never be filled. She is survived by Jeff, her husband of 56 years, her brother-in-law Steve Cameron and wife Sherry, in Medford, Oregon, her sister-in-law Ann Cameron, in Yreka, California, a Cousin Terry Krauska, in Redding, California, and several nieces and nephews.
At her request, cremation has taken place, and no services will be conducted. Memorial contributions may be made to HopeWest Hospice or to Alzheimer’s Association in her name. They were extremely helpful during Nicki’s final days and are greatly appreciated. Crippin Funeral Home, Montrose is assisting the family. (970)249-2121
