Obituary

Whether you knew her as Mildred, Ann, Anna, or Blue, you probably knew her to be someone who wore many hats. She was a loving wife, mother, sister, and friend. She was a student, a teacher, an avid writer, and reader. She was a spinner, a weaver, a sculptor, a musician, a librarian, a puppeteer (and more). She even started a YouTube channel in her 70s, despite her deep disdain for technology.

Whatever name you knew her by, and whatever context you knew her in, you also know that her faith in Jesus was of the utmost importance to her, and whatever hat she was wearing, she always wore it in a way that glorified God and loved his people well.

Mildred was always giving gifts to people. If you knew her, you likely have something that used to belong to her or something she created just for you: a book she wrote, a musical instrument, a handwoven project, a piece of pottery. She loved making things, and she loved putting time and effort into her handmade gifts as a way to show her love for others.

Mildred also loved groups of people. She was drawn to Native American tribes, the Mennonite community, the Weaver's Guild, and various church congregations over the years. She said she loved the idea of belonging somewhere. While we know we have to say goodbye to one of the world's most loving, creative people, we know that she's spending eternity in heaven with the one who created all things, and we can’t imagine anyone who belongs there more.

Mildred passed away on June 23, 2026. She is survived by her husband of 54 years, Ron Sturgeon; her sons, Roy, Joel, and Ian; her beloved grandchildren, Noah, Levi, Rhiannon, Gabriel, Darrin, Ali, Emmett, and Eli; and her great-grandson, Owen.

Join us in celebrating her faith, generosity, and love for others as we remember Mildred Ann Sturgeon.
