Maurie Ronald Curtis, 73 of Montrose, Colorado died of an accidental fall just east of Montrose on Saturday, July 20th, 2019.
Maurie was born on April 17th, 1946 in Burlington, WA to Vern Curtis and Doris Kessel. He spent the first part of his life in his hometown of Burlington, WA; where he met, married and later divorced Sue Cushen. Together they raised Jani, Joyce, Judy, Wesley, Maureen and Ronnie. In 1974 he met Debby Frigetto. They were married in 1976. They moved to Debby’s hometown of Montrose, Co. Together they had twin daughters Lawna and Lisa Curtis. He spent most of his life owning his own company as a contractor and builder. After retirement he decided to return to work part-time for Ridgway Valley as a safety supervisor, a position he really enjoyed as it allowed him to travel to various National Parks. Maurie loved the outdoors. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, golfing, tending to his garden and yard. Maurie enjoyed spending his free time with his three grandsons Deno, Cash and JJ.
He is survived by his wife Debby Curtis, children Judy (Ed) Zavala, Wesley (Katie) Curtis, Maureen Pritchard, Ronnie Curtis, Lawna Curtis and siblings Alan (Jill) Curtis, Lynn Curtis, Vernie (Sue) Curtis, Anita Colquhoun, Pearl Jennings as well as 15 grandchildren and 9 great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his father Vern Curtis, mother Doris Kessel, brothers Roy and Freddie Kessel and daughters Jani Singh, Joyce Wells and Lisa Curtis,
Services for Maurie will be held July 28th at Crippin Funeral home at 11am. Interment will follow immediately at Grand View Cemetery. Lunch will be served following the services at the Montrose Elks Lodge.
In lieu of flowers, the family is asking donations in Maurie’s name be made to Dolphin House (970.240.8655) located at 735 S. 1st Street, Montrose CO. 81401
