Marietta Hammer (Bright)

February 29, 1936 — October 21, 2023

Marietta Bright Hammer was peacefully CALLED HOME TO HEAVEN on October 21, 2023.  William Maurice Hammer, Jr., her husband of 61 years and Pastor Ozzie of Christ’s Church of the Valley where she attended were by her side upon her passing.  Marietta was the only child born to George Floyd Bright and Esther (Wright) Bright on February 29, 1936, in Philadelphia, PA.  She spent her childhood in Clementon, NJ surrounded by her grandparents, aunts, uncles, and cousins.  She graduated from Regional High School in 1954.

After she married, Marietta and Bill built their first house in Medford, NJ where they raised their four children: Michael Howard Hammer (66), Staci Ragan Moore (60), Mark William Hammer (59) and William Scott Hammer (57).  During their marriage, Marietta and Bill designed and built houses in the Evergreen, CO area.  Marietta worked as an LPN.  Marietta and Bill also lived in Golden, CO, Fort Garland, CO, and Fairplay, CO. After retiring, Marietta and Bill took a couple of trips to Alaska, which remained treasured memories for both.  She enjoyed quilting, making stain glass, and coloring during her retirement.

Marietta has 8 grandchildren, although Cody Ragan of Great Bend, KS predeceased her.  She is survived by 11 great-grandchildren.

There was a viewing and memorial service for immediate family.  Her church family will also be having a memorial service in the near future.  Marietta requested that memorial contributions be made to North Central Kansas Down Syndrome Society, 616 E. 13th, Concordia, KS 66901 in the name of her great-grandson, Joseph Eugene Ragan. Crippin Funeral Home of Montrose is assisting Marietta’s family.
