Obituary

With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of our beloved Mardell "Mardy" Trujillo, who entered into the presence of her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on June 20, 2026, at the age of 76.

Mardy was born on October 1, 1949, in her mother's lifelong home in Montrose, Colorado, to Trinidad Morales and Lilly Martinez-Aguilar. She was raised in Montrose alongside her ten siblings and attended Montrose schools, graduating from Montrose High School.

She is survived by her siblings: Leroy Morales of Montrose, Colorado; Gene Morales of Edmond, Oklahoma; Dale Morales of Denver, Colorado; Gloria Morales of Montrose, Colorado; Elaine (Del) Magdaleno of Gunnison, Colorado; and Patsy (Bill) Quintana of Albuquerque, New Mexico. She was preceded in death by her brothers Manuel Morales, Trini Morales, and Lloyd Morales, and her sister Barbara Morales.

After graduating from high school, Mardy spent time in California, where she enjoyed many new experiences, including attending a memorable Santana concert. Upon returning to Colorado, she and her father moved to Center, Colorado. It was there that she met the love of her life, Andres "Filemon" Trujillo. They were united in marriage on October 22, 1975, and together built a life filled with love, faith, and family. They were blessed with three children: Melissa Trujillo, Cynthia Trujillo, and Phil Trujillo.

During her younger years, Mardy devoted herself to raising her family as a homemaker while also working part-time sorting potatoes in the fields around Center. She approached every role in life with dedication, humility, and grace.

Although she never belonged to a particular church congregation, Mardy's faith in the Lord Jesus Christ was the foundation of her life. She opened her home for Bible studies, welcomed family and friends for countless gatherings, and shared God's love through her kindness, generosity, and unwavering faith. Her home was a place where everyone felt loved, accepted, and encouraged.

Mardy possessed a beautiful creative spirit. She loved writing songs and poetry and was blessed with the opportunity to write professionally for country singers. Music brought her great joy, and she loved to sing and dance whenever she had the chance. She also had a remarkable gift for gardening. Her yard was always bursting with colorful flowers, reflecting the beauty and care she poured into everything she touched.

In 1990, at the age of 40, Mardy experienced one of life's greatest blessings—becoming a grandmother. From that moment on, she became known simply and lovingly as "Nan." Being a grandmother was more than a title; it became her greatest joy and purpose. Her grandchildren were the light of her life, and she cherished every moment spent with them.

Mardy is survived by her husband Andres “Filemon” Trujillo, her children, Melissa Trujillo and Phil Trujillo, and she leaves behind seven beloved grandchildren: Desiree (Laura) McKibben of Montrose, Colorado; Deidre (Kaleb) Robinson of Montrose, Colorado; Troy McKibben of Montrose, Colorado; Devon (Veronica) Miramontes of Olathe, Colorado; Destiny Miramontes of Alamosa, Colorado; Delilah Trujillo of Denver, Colorado; and Lexi Trujillo of Denver, Colorado. She was also blessed with ten great-grandchildren, each of whom brought her immense pride and happiness. She also has numerous nieces and nephews.

Mardy was preceded in death by her beloved parents, Trinidad Morales and Lilly Martinez-Aguilar; her cherished daughter, Cynthia Trujillo; her grandson, Damian Miramontes; her brothers Manuel Morales, Trini Morales, and Lloyd Morales; and her sister Barbara Morales.

Mardy will be remembered for her steadfast faith, compassionate heart, infectious laughter, beautiful singing voice, creative talents, welcoming home, and unconditional love for her family. Her life was a testament to God's love, and her legacy will continue through the countless lives she touched with her kindness and generosity.

A Celebration of Life will be held on Friday, July 10, 2026, at 10:30 a.m. at Crippin Funeral Home in Montrose, Colorado. Mardy had a special love for the color red. In her honor, the family kindly asks that attendees wear red and black to the service. There will be a luncheon to follow.

Though she is no longer with us in body, her spirit lives on in the lessons she taught, the faith she demonstrated, the love she so freely gave, and the quiet, enduring imprint she left on every heart she touched.

As nanny always said, “Everybody be happy, the lord loves you!”
