Lorna Rae Stonehocker

1943-2020

With her loved ones by her side at her home in Montrose, Lorna Stonehocker, 76, entered into eternal life on Friday, July 10, after a long battle with cancer.

Lorna Rae Forsyth was born on Dec. 4, 1943 to Chester Forsyth and Tressie (Tunget) Forsyth in Hotchkiss, CO. The family lived in the Peach Valley area in Delta where Lorna and her sisters embarked on many mischievous and fun-filled adventures.

Lorna spent the majority of her life in the Montrose area where she raised her three children. In 1990, she married the love of her life, Bob “Stoney” Stonehocker, and they enjoyed six beautiful years together before Stoney passed. We are sure that he was first in line to greet her at the Pearly Gates, finally to be reunited for all eternity.

In 2017, Lorna’s world was rocked when she lost her beloved grandson, Nathan. She took comfort in her faith, knowing that he was finally at rest.

Lorna was truly the matriarch of the family. Her life was focused around her family and loved ones. She was always there when you needed her, sharing words of wisdom mixed with her dry wit. She welcomed people into her circle with open arms and endless love. Lorna will be remembered as being a hard worker and an amazing cook. She loved dogs and cats and hummingbirds. Lorna also loved to travel to Albuquerque with her daughter to visit her sister, getting distracted along the way by yard sales and sometimes getting lost.

Her children will miss their daily conversations with their mom and will hold these treasured moments in their hearts forever.

Lorna was preceded in death by her parents, sisters Leota Rae Forsyth and Nora (Forsyth) Collins, husband Bob “Stoney” Stonehocker, and grandson Nathan Collins.

She is survived by her sister Fay Forsyth of Albuquerque, NM; her children Theron Collins, Dean (Desiree) Collins and Mona (Jim) Stonehocker, all of Montrose; 13 grandchildren and 21 great-grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews and many close family friends.

A graveside service will be held on Saturday, July 18 at 1 pm at the Delta City Cemetery on Garnet Mesa. A potluck celebration of life will follow at Mona and Jim’s at 3 pm. Their address is 14923 6175 Rd, Montrose. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations may be made to Hope West, 725 S. 4th St, Montrose, CO 81401.

The family would like to thank Crippin Funeral Home for guiding us through this difficult time and Hope West for the amazing care our loved one received.

“Those we love don’t go away, they walk beside us every day, unseen, unheard, but always near, still loved, still missed and very dear.” Lorna, you are forever in our hearts.
