Lendell S Chasten

Lendell S. Chasten, 88, passed away peacefully at his home in Montrose, CO on Sunday, August 28th, 2022, surrounded by many loved ones.

Lendell was born on December 20th, 1933, to Pastor Elree and Noble (Chitwood) Chasten in Ellington, MO. They later moved to Cortez, CO where Lendell was raised and graduated from high school. Shortly after graduating, Lendell enlisted himself in the U.S. Army where he served his country for four honorable years.

On January 7th, 1978, Lendell exchanged vows with the love of his life, Rose Marquez, in Florence, CO. Lendell and Rose raised eight beautiful children together: seven sons and one daughter. Lendell was a dedicated and hard-working father and husband in the mining industry where he was an operator of heavy equipment. In the late 90’s Lendell and Rose decided to settle down in the quant town of Montrose, CO, where they’ve been residents for the last 25 years. They found a home in Rosemont Baptist Church, where he was a longstanding member of.

Lendell loved studying the word of our Heavenly Father. He enthusiastically and constantly shared his faith and his memories of his dad, Elree’s, preaching and sermons. Lendell also enjoyed spending time with his family, bicycle riding, detailing his car, and singing.

Lendell is survived by his wife, Rose of Montrose, CO; his sons, Rick Chasten (Robyn) of Montrose, CO, Cameron Chasten (Monica of Pilesgrove, NJ, Duane Abeyta of Grand Junction, CO, Christopher Abeyta (Gloria) of Farmington, NM, and Len Chasten of Copperton, UT; his daughter Annette Marquez of Canon City, CO; his brothers, Paul Chasten (Susan) and Doug Chasten (Linda) both of Joplin, MO; his sister, Sharon Southwick (James) of St. Louis, MO; fourteen grandchildren; eleven great grandchildren, and many nieces, nephews and loved ones.

Lendell is proceeded in death by his parents, Elree and Noble Chasten; his sons, Christopher Lynn Chasten and Albert Abeyta; his brothers, Lester Chasten, Bob Chasten, and Cecil Chasten; his sisters, Vesta Butler, Estafay Harrington, and Glenda Griffith; and his grandsons, Shane Abeyta and Andrew Chasten.

A celebration of his life will be held on September 24th, 2022, at 11:00am at Rosemont Baptist Church in Montrose, CO.
