Larry R. Harrison, 80 years old, passed away at home on May 21, 2023.
He is survived by his beloved wife of almost 56 years, Lynda. Together they had three children: Tami, Sloan and Lance (Molly), grandchildren Jena, Holly, Keaton, Delia and great grandchildren Brylee, Bohden, Banx and PK. He is also survived by a sister Bonnie Stone (Russell) and brother Harold Harrison (Barbara).
Larry, the son of Fred and Cleo Harrison, was born in Telluride, Colorado. Larry attended Riverside Elementary School and Montrose High School where he participated in football and wrestling, winning the Colorado State Championship twice in wrestling. He attended College Preparatory School in Bainbridge Maryland before entering Colorado State University and graduating in 1965 with a BS in Education. He went on to receive an MBA in Education at the University of Texas at El Paso. His teaching and coaching career began at Mayfield High School in Las Cruces, NM. Larry coached and taught at the University of Texas El Paso and then Elgin Junior College as an assistant wrestling coach and baseball coach. He then went on to Greeley Colorado where he became the head wrestling coach at the University of Northern Colorado and a professor and head of the health and human sciences, education department. He served on multiple boards, was an accomplished professor and advisor and received many accolades for academic excellence while at UNC.
Upon retirement, He and Lynda moved from Greeley to the Montrose area where his love of the great outdoors flourished. Golf, fishing, and hunting were some of his passions including his love for his own personal backyard. In addition to being a great outdoorsman, and athlete, Larry was an incredible gardener and loved sharing his bounty with others, especially in the kitchen, cooking and entertaining. His accomplishments were vast, and was a dear friend, father, grandparent, and devout husband.
A celebration of life will be held at his favorite golf community and club, Cobble Creek. June 18th, 2pm. All are welcome.
