Kevin Wallace Smith

Kevin Smith, son, brother, husband, father, uncle and a brand new grandpa, passed away in Montrose, Colorado on September 21st, 2026. Kevin succumbed to a long journey of health complications. Kevin was born to Wally and Nancy Smith, in Prescott, Arizona in 1971. Being a little brother to Leianne, he cherished his big sister as they grew up together and when the family moved to Flagstaff. His parents owned and operated Block-Lite, building the business and serving construction needs across northern Arizona. Kevin attended Christensen Elementary School, East Flag Junior High and graduated from Coconino High School in 1990. He worked at Block-Lite all through high school and then full time after graduation. The family enjoyed many trips to Colorado having purchased a ranch on the western slope, Kevin spent summers working the ranch and enjoying the western lifestyle. Two days before valentines day in 1994, Kevin met Tammi at the Redwood Inn in Flagstaff and danced the night away at the Museum Club. They were married on May 4th, 1996 at the Mormon Lake Lodge and the honeymoon ended at their home in Montrose. Kevin worked around town, including Alpine Lumber, the chip re-load and City Market. Kevin became a father for the first time in 1998 and again in 2001. Grant and Carter were true joy, making the family of four whole. Time in the mountains is where Kevin found peace and God. Learning from the many pastor’s and the bible, Kevin grew in his faith and lead his family, teaching his sons life’s values of love, hard work, and loyalty. The young family spent time together doing school sports, 4H, camping and motorsports. In October of 2001 Kevin was impacted by his first stroke. This event changed his life and yet he grew stronger in family and fellowship. In December of 2014 Kevin suffered a major stroke that transitioned his life forever and soon after Tammi became his full-time caregiver, honoring her vow when she promised him through sickness and health. Together they would be seen at the grocery store or church, never separated and always joyful for the love they shared. As Grant and Carter grew into young men, the values their dad taught them became evident. The strong sense of family was built upon when Grant married Sara in November of 2025 and brought Sadie Jo into the world making Kevin a grandpa. Carter soon followed marrying Jolee in the summer of 2026 with his dad as a witness. Kevin’s life was made whole by his family and the many friends and neighbors he had over the years. He will be remembered for his smile, his conversation and the family he raised. Kevin is survived by his wife Tammi, his sons Grant (Sara) and Carter (Jolee), his parents Wally and Nancy Smith, his sister Leianne (Kevin) Romero, granddaughter Sadie, two nieces and seven nephews. Services will be held Saturday September 26th, 2026 at 1 o’clock at the Circle 3 Cowboy Church in Montrose.
