Obituary

John Harlow Ross, affectionately known as Pete, was born June 17, 1933, in Indianapolis, Indiana. He passed away peacefully at his home in Montrose, Colorado, on October 28, 2026, at the age of 93.

Pete was the son of John W. Ross and Almeda J. Sturm-Ross, both of whom preceded him in death. He was also preceded in death by his sister, Carol J. Ross-Boruff.

On February 12, 1960, Pete married Mary L. Lewis, beginning a marriage and family life that spanned 66 years. He is survived by his wife, Mary; his children, Marilyn (Lori) Ross and John M. Ross and John's wife, Sandy; and his grandchildren, Eric C. Ross and Jonathan D. Ross.

Pete proudly served nine years in the Indiana National Guard. During his military service, he earned an Expert Marksman certification, an accomplishment that reflected his dedication and skill.

Pete enjoyed a long and rewarding career with Hewlett-Packard, where he dedicated 25 years of service. He began his career as a machinist and, through his experience and expertise, eventually advanced to become a Supplier Quality Engineer. He retired in April 1990.

A devoted Christian, Pete attended Trinity Reformed Presbyterian Church, where he served as an Elder and was later honored with the title of Elder Emeritus. His faith and service to his church were meaningful parts of his life.

Pete had a wide variety of interests and enjoyed staying active, learning, and exploring the world around him. He loved backpacking, fishing, golf, hunting, and square dancing, as well as woodworking, genealogy, history, geocaching, and photography. His interests reflected his appreciation for the outdoors, his curiosity about the past, and his enjoyment of discovering new things.

Music was another of Pete's great pleasures. Among his favorite performers were Karen Carpenter and John Denver, whose music he especially enjoyed.

Pete will be remembered by his family for the life he lived, his faith, his service to others, his dedication to his work, and his many interests. He leaves behind a lifetime of memories and will be deeply missed by his family and loved ones.

May he rest in God's eternal peace
