Jerry went home to his Heavenly father on January 4, 202 at the age of 93.
He was born in Peoria, Illinois on June 2, 1932 to Martha and Henry Muzzy, the youngest of seven children, all of whom proceeded him in death. As a young boy, he worked on the farm with his family. As a young man, he worked for Caterpillar Tractor, following in his fathers footsteps. Jerry joined the Navy at the age of 20.
He served own board ship as a machinist and was on the crew of the send of team as well, making sure the planes got off and on safely. He was proud of his service and also reminisced about his shipmates.
Upon discharge from his service, he met and married Joan Garber in Boston. That marriage produced two children. Cheryl (Joseph) Zabriskie of Montrose and Scott (Kelly)Muzzy, as well as two grandsons Dean (Shelby) and Casey. He also has two great grandchildren Meara Ray and Madison Scott Muzzy all of Townsend, MA
While in Boston, he pursued his machinist occupation working for the Boston Globe. When the marriage ended, Jerry moved to Denver. There he worked for the Denver Post.
Dad was avid hunter and after several trips with friends to Montrose, he moved to Montrose after his retirement from the post. He felt at home here in the country and settled in. He loved to hunt and fish, so
this was the perfect place for him. He met and married Ann Arthur, who proceeded him in death. Not one to sit still, he went to work for the school department and
worked at Pomona elementary for many years. He enjoyed that job and all the kids he met while there, some of whom introduced their own kids to "Mr. Muzzy" if they saw him out and about. Dad finally retired for good in the 80's.
He continued to enjoy his passion of bowling, scoring many 300 games. He also traveled for tournaments
When not bowling, he followed his other interest, golf. He kept busy in his retirement with his memberships in the Masons, the Elks and the VFW, serving in many ranks in each origination, helping where ever he was needed.
