Jeffrey “Jeff” Ross Smyth, 71, of Montrose, Colorado, passed away peacefully on January 30, 2026.
Jeff was a devoted husband of 51 years, father, and grandfather whose enthusiasm for life and steady presence were felt by all who knew him. He built a life rooted in faith, family, and hard work, and he leaves behind a legacy of kindness, integrity, and generosity.
Jeff is survived by his wife, Sheri Smyth; his children, Lucas Smyth and daughter Everley (9); Brent Smyth and his wife Carley, and their son Weston (6); and Rickelle Hicks and her husband Caleb, and their sons Gunnison (14), Fraser (11), and Henry (8); and siblings Mike, Andy and Mary Sue. He was deeply proud of each of them, and his greatest joy came from being a father and “Papa.”
Jeff graduated from Wasson High School, Colorado Springs, CO in 1972. He raised his family and built a business in Monument, CO. Jeff and Sheri moved to Grand Lake for several years before completing his work career with Alpine Lumber Company in Montrose, CO. Jeff was a builder and sales manager for construction millworks. He retired in December 2025. Jeff was looking forward to volunteering in a ministry role.
Jeff’s passions in life included guitar, golfing, fishing, friendships and his relationship with Jesus Christ. He was an encourager, listener, counselor and leader. Jeff was a true friend to many. He brought laughter and joy with him always.
A service honoring Jeff’s life will be held on Saturday, February 7, 2026, at 10:00 AM at Grace Community Church in Montrose. Family and friends are invited to gather and remember a man who touched many lives through his warmth, wisdom, and unwavering love.
“Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy and my burden is light.” -Matthew 11:28-30
