Jean Ann (Lindly) Bramer
June 29, 1941 ~ May 2, 2017
Jean Ann (Lindly) Bramer, 75, passed away Tuesday evening May 2, 2017 at HopeWest in Grand Junction, Colorado.
Jean was born June 29, 1941 on the Lindly farm at Anselmo, Nebraska to John Lindly and Margaret Morris Lindly. She was an only child.
Her parent’s moved to Arizona and then to California when Jean was a child because of her health. After a time, the family returned to Nebraska to live.
Jean graduated from Ansley, Nebraska High School in 1959. She married her high school sweetheart, Dwayne Bramer on December 6, 1959. In 1965 they moved to Ainsworth, Nebraska where they would live for the next 26 years. They had three children, Jerry, Jody, and Jim. All three children attended kindergarten thru high school in Ainsworth and Jean and Dwayne enjoyed supporting them in their many school activities. Jean was very active in community organizations, specifically the Ainsworth Chamber of Commerce. She also co-chaired the National Country Music Festival and Contest for 19 years; an accomplishment that earned her The Country Music Association’s American Eagle Award for her outstanding contribution to country music. Jean was also very active in the United Methodist Church leading the charge of three choirs ranging from the tiny tots up to the traveling high school choir, The Love, Peach and Joy Singers. This choir performed monthly at their home church and also traveled the state of Nebraska performing at various other churches.
In July of 1989, then Governor, Kay Orr, bestowed Jean the title of Commission of Admiral by The Great Mythical Navy of the State of Nebraska for her outstanding and continual contribution to community and state. In 2001, Jean and Dwayne moved to Montrose, Colorado, where they took frequent excursions to enjoy the beautiful mountains and scenery.
In 2014, Jean was diagnosed with colon cancer and given 6 months to live. She chose to forego traditional cancer treatment and instead fight the disease by following a strict juicing and nutritional program. With the guidance of David Combs, the support of all of the South City Market employees (particularly Frank and Craig in the produce department), she was able to prolong her time by 3 years. Jean was a member of Eastern Star for 57 years and a member of P.E.O. for 44 years.
She is survived by her husband of 57 years, Dwayne, two sons Jerry (and wife Julie), and Jim, daughter Jody, and grandson, John.
Services will be held Thursday, May 11 at 11:00 AM at the Montrose United Methodist Church, 19 South Park Avenue, Montrose, Colorado.
In lieu of flowers, donations in Jean’s honor may be sent to Hope West Hospice, 725 South 4th Street, Montrose, CO 81401. The family is being assisted by Crippin Funeral Home, Montrose, Colorado.
