Janice ‘Jan’ (Downey) McClemans of Montrose, Colorado passed away August 16th peacefully at home with her family by her side at the age of 87. She has been a resident of Montrose for 33 years.
Jan was born in Anson, Jones County, Texas on November 25,1937 the daughter of John Otis Downey and Vera Merle Durham, and was the only daughter of seven children.
The Downey family moved to Lemoore, Kings County, Los Angeles, California in 1940. She graduated from San Pedro High School, Los Angeles County, California in 1954. Jan married her High School sweetheart, Donald Ray McClemans in 1954, they had one son and twin daughters. In 1960 they moved to Garden Grove, Orange County, California and raised their children. Jan volunteered many hours at Stanford Elementary School in Garden Grove assisting with the implementation of a school library, she also volunteered many years as an Elections Worker.
In 1973/1974 Jan and her husband Don became lifetime members of A.A. and Al-Anon, where she volunteered many years doing Al-Anon World Service. With a desire to further her education she attended California State University, Fullerton, graduating with a Bachelor of Science and a Major in Human Services, with honors and a place on the Dean’s List, in 1983.
Jan and Don enjoyed traveling around the world to places like China, Europe, Australia, Fiji, just to name a few. She also loved spending time with her family on trips to Lake Powell and Colorado. Family was very important to her. After retiring they moved to Montrose, Colorado and built their dream home. She enjoyed being a member of the Red Hats and attending water aerobics classes.
She is proceeded in death by her parents, husband Donald Ray McClemans of 66 years, four brothers, Bill, Stan, Bob Downey, David Seaman and her son-in law, Richard Alford. She is survived by two younger brothers, Danny Seaman (Gloria), Donald Seaman (Marilyn), both of Southern California. Her son, Donald Ray McClemans (Beki) of Washington, daughter Teri Lynn (McClemans) Alford, daughter Sherry Ann (McClemans) Mulvaney (Jack), both of Montrose, CO., Four Grandchildren, Corey McClemans (Tanya), Jacob McClemans (Liara), Madison (Mulvaney) Forsberg (Luke), Ariel (Alford) Buchanan (Arin), and seven great grandchildren, Cameron, Jadelyn, Olivia, Makai, Noa McClemans, and Agnes and Angus Buchanan.
