James "Mike" Michael Trickey, passed away August 17, 2026 at Valley Manor Care Center in Montrose, Colorado. Surrounded by family, he left peacefully.

Mike was born October 28, 1949 in Oswego, Kansas, the son of the late Charles and N. Marjorie (Campbell) Trickey.

Mike was a United States Marine Corps veteran, serving from May 1968 to May 1972. During the Vietnam war, Mike was stationed at El Torro, California where he was a mechanic, primarily working on Phantom II jets, which he would often recount.

From 2017 to 2022, Mike was the Executive Director of Welcome Home Alliance For Veterans (WHAFV) and board member for both WHAFV and the Montrose Veterans Memorial Coalition. He was a cherished mentor at the center and led major annual fundraisers for WHAFV. Mike was the visionary behind the upcoming Montrose Veterans Memorial Plaza. He was an unwavering supporter of veterans in the community.

He enjoyed fly fishing, classic cars, barbecuing, chocolate donuts, and root beer. While he was known for his quick wit and humor, he was very passionate about supporting veterans and made it his focus.

Mike is survived by his loving wife of 20 years, Kylee Dell Smith; daughter Marjorie Hensley of Oroville, California, and step-sons Michael Grigg (wife Alyssa Grigg) of Seattle, Washington and Scott Grigg (wife Jennifer Myers) of Washington, D.C.;

4 grandchildren, Carissa Housouer, Bryanna Hensley, Taj Grigg and Isabella Grigg; one brother, Alan Trickey (wife Jane Trickey), one sister, Barbara Ryerson, along with many other family and friends who will miss him very much.

There will be a visitation for Mike at Welcome Home Montrose on Thursday, August 27, 2026 from 9-11 a.m. and arrangements have been made for graveside services 2 p.m., Friday, August 28, 2026, at the Veterans Cemetery in Grand View Cemetery, 16300 6450 Ct. Montrose, CO 81403.
