January 6, 1936 – May 17, 2024
James “Jim” Hoadley 88, passed away on May 17, 2024, at the Colorow Care Center in Olathe, Colorado. Jim was born at the family home in Olathe on January 6, 1936, to Carl Hoadley and Pearl (Anders) Hoadley. He attended all grades in Olathe, graduating from Olathe High School in 1954.
He married his High School sweetheart, Carol Crane, 68 years ago. Their family includes sons, Terry (Maggi) residing in Colorado Springs, CO. and David (deceased).
He served a tour of duty with the U. S. Army, located in Fairbanks, Alaska prior to it becoming a state. Upon discharge he served with the National Guard.
Jim was a State Certified rural domestic water system operator, a vocation he enjoyed until effects of Multiple Sclerosis made it no longer possible. He was diagnosed with MS 45 years ago. From that point on he was faced with a multitude of obstacles which he met head on with acceptance and fortitude. He took up swimming laps at the Montrose pool and could be found there week-day mornings for many years.
He was a volunteer fireman with the Olathe Fire Department for 37 years, active on calls when able, then transitioning to the Treasurer position. Many life-long friends came from that association.
Jim was a member of the MS Gabbers located in Montrose, participating in not only social but educational programs as well. In the 60’s he served with Jaycee members to establish the “Happiness School” for disadvantaged youth prior to the School District implementing Special Education. He was an Old Timer’s Association Coach for youth summer baseball, the 9-10 yr. old group as well as the 11-12 yr. group. He had a deep desire that those programs continue for the Olathe area youth.
Jim is survived by his son, Terry (Maggi), granddaughter Amy (Ray), great grandsons Corbin and Ayden. Granddaughter Amber (David), great grandson Grady, and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Preceded in death are half-brother Wayne Andrews and half-sister Atta Faye Dixon (Andrews).
As the MS progressed, he needed additional care resulting in his residency at the Colorow Care Center in Olathe where he remained for the past 9 ½ years. Recently he received additional care from Hope West/Hospice.
