2George Richard “Rick” Rowan passed away Monday, Dec. 14, 2015, at Montrose Memorial Hospital. Rick was born December 13, 1938 in Montrose, Co to George and Maxine (McClanahan) Rowan. Rick grew up on a farm outside of Olathe, CO on California Mesa with his parents and his brother Dennis. He graduated Olathe High School in 1956. He married the love of his life, Carla Jean Holman, (daughter of Emery and Beatrice Holman) on December 14, 1957. They have 4 children and 10 grandchildren together. Zane Rowan (Lori) of Montrose, Co and their children, Betty Tomlinson and Chris Rowan. Aaron Rowan of Montrose, Co and his children, A.J Rowan and Shyla Standish. Tawna Caddy (Keith) of Montrose, Co and their children, Danielle Wyatt, James Caddy, Keith Caddy Jr., David Caddy and Benjamin Caddy. Sonya (Larry) Scott of Elko, Nv and their daughter Chancie Scott. They have 11 beautiful great grandchildren. (Easton, Harley, Jax, Landen, Joshua, Zane, Rylan, Griffin, Cooper, Natally and Indi). Rick is also survived by 2 Nephews, Tad (Amy) Rowan and Kit Rowan of Montrose, Co and numerous nieces and nephews on the Holman side. Rick was preceded in death by his parents and his brother. Rick was a beloved husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather. He loved music and played many instruments including the accordion and the organ. He grew up participating in 4H and FFA and earned leadership recognition in both. He loved spending time with his family outdoors, especially while hunting, fishing and camping. His children were involved in High School Rodeo and he was a State President for The High School Rodeo Association. Rick also enjoyed watching and attending rodeos and was able to attend many PBR Rodeos in Las Vegas, NV. He enjoyed watching sports at home and having his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren come and visit. He always had a place on his lap for the great grand kids. Rick’s working career began in ranching with his father-in-law, Emery Holman. He worked locally at City Market and at Flairmont Furniture. The majority of his career was spent serving his community. He was an EMT and worked with his brother in the Montrose Ambulance Service. He worked for Montrose County Sheriff’s Office for 25 years as a Deputy and Undersheriff. Throughout his working career he was also a committed volunteer. Rick was a volunteer fire fighter for 25 years, served on the Montrose County Sheriff’s Posse for over 20 years and served on the Montrose County Fair Board. Rick continued working at Wollert GMC and in private security after retiring from Montrose County Sheriff’s Office. Rick and Carla enjoyed traveling and they were able to make a trip to Kauai, HI in April of this year. It was a special trip and he was able to relax and enjoy the sights. Rick was an active member of the LDS Church, (Spring Creek Ward) and was called to serve as a counselor on the Bishopric in 2015. Throughout his membership he was honored to serve as an Executive Stake Secretary to 5 different bishops. Rick took great pride in his service to the church. A service to honor his life is scheduled for Saturday, December 19th at 10:00am at the Montrose Co Stake Center of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints ~ 1521 S Hillcrest Dr. (Viewing for friends and family will be from 8:30 – 9:30am at the same location). Memorial Contributions can be made to The Montrose County Sheriff’s Posse and can be sent to Crippin Funeral Home at 802 Main St, Montrose, CO 81401.
