Eric Edgell

d. Jun 19, 2026

Montrose

Eric Edgell was a devoted husband, father, son, brother, friend, uncle, and cousin. Family meant everything to him. He often reminded his wife Carma of how much she and the family they started meant to him always saying things to her like “You're my girl, and that is why." As a father, Eric always made time for his sons to share interests, help them with whatever they needed, and was an extremely patient teacher. He enjoyed smoking and curing meat and making a variety of foods and loved sharing what he knew. As an active member of a smoking and curing food forum, he helped people from all over the world. If someone showed interest, he was always happy to share his knowledge. Eric also enjoyed shooting, hunting, fishing, and spending time outdoors. Some of his sons' favorite memories include fishing trips, watching football, working on vehicles, talking about cars, and other various topics with their dad. He loved to laugh with his family.

Eric owned his own excavation business and was one of the premiere excavators in Montrose. He was kind and honest with everyone that he did business with, contractors and clients alike. Eric was the kind of person you could call when you were in a bind, and he would always know what to do, and would make time to help.

Eric loved this country and our service men and women. He loved and studied history extensively and kept it close. He believed it was important to remember. He also believed it was important to always learn something new every day. One of his favorite sayings was “there are no graduates because the learning never stops”. He believed knowledge was a superpower.

He is survived by his wife, Carma; his sons, Harlen and Garret Edgell, both of Montrose; his mother, Linda Edgell, of Montrose; and many uncles, aunts, and cousins in Colorado and New Mexico. He was preceded in death by his father, Norman Edgell, his grandmother, Esther Gatchet, and his uncle, Wayne Gatchet.
