Donald E. Zastrow

Donald E. Zastrow born to Alvin and Martha Zastrow and raised on a farm near Camp Douglas, Wisconsin with siblings Mary Ann, Rodger and LaVern. Donald was the youngest. The first years he attended Diamond Valley country school. All 8 grades in a one room school with one teacher. He attended high school in Tomah, Wisconsin.

He was preceded in death by his wife Kay, his Mom and Dad and his brother LaVern. He is survived by his sister Mary Ann Johnson of Eckert, CO , his brother Rodger Zastrow and wife Ermagard of Florida, nephew Mike Johnson, wife Evi and son Isaac of Eau Claire, WI, nephew Tom Johnson, wife Patty, daughter Jennifer and son Eric of LaCrosse, WI, nephew Rick Saxton of Eckert, CO, great niece Kristin Diaz Rios, husband Filemon and children Ava, Colton and Adelyn of Phoenix AZ, and great niece Danielle Saxton of Eckert, CO.

He worked for the railroad out of Chicago before enlisting in the Army. Donald settled in Waukegan, IL where he met and married Kay Norkus. Living there he worked at a large liquor house and later at the Dog Track. Eventually Don and Kay moved west and settled in Montrose, CO. In retirement, Donald worked part time for his nephew Rick in the office furniture business, worked some odd jobs around Montrose and finished his working career at Enterprise car rentals.

Donald was very involved and devoted to the Moose Lodge in Waukegan, Il for 50 years, he was governor some of this time. Donald enjoyed bowling very much right up to the end. He and Kay enjoyed traveling with a few cruises and driving about seeing the countryside.

Kay passed away on September 12, 2001, and Donald passed away peacefully at his sister, Mary Ann’s house on March 30, 2024.

Memorial services will be July 3, 2024, at Crippin Funeral Home at 10:00am. Interment at Cedar Creek Cemetery with military honors.
