After a long battle with Parkinson's disease, Donald "Don" Kintz fell asleep in death on October 12, 2026, at his home in Montrose, Colorado. He was 86 years old.
Don was born in Ault, Colorado, on August 28, 1940, the second child of Jack and Arlene Kintz. His love of books and music led him to pursue a Bachelor of Arts degree at Colorado College. After graduating, he joined the United States Marine Corps.
In July 1966, Don met the love of his life, Betty Anne Stuart, on a blind date. Three days later, he proposed. They were married the following February and shared a loving marriage for nearly six decades.
During the 1970s, Don and Betsy, along with their three daughters, lived in Evergreen, Colorado; Bridport, Vermont; and Denver, Colorado. Over the years, Don worked as a farmer, home builder, and track coach.
In 1980, Don and Betsy moved the family to a sheep farm in Montrose, Colorado, which they lovingly transformed into Black Canyon Arabians. Don enjoyed life on the ranch and found great satisfaction in creating beautiful homes, including homes for members of his family.
From 1990 to 2010, Don developed three subdivisions in Montrose: Wildwood, Otter Pond, and The Brook. Many homes throughout the Montrose area were custom-designed and built by Don. He also generously donated land for an elementary school and a local center of worship, leaving a lasting impact on the community he loved.
In 2008, Don joined his wife as a dedicated member of the Montrose Congregation of Jehovah's Witnesses and found great joy in sharing his faith and hope for the new world described in the Bible. (Revelation 21:4)
Throughout his life, Don loved to travel with his family - from New Orleans to Lake Powell, from sailing the islands of the Caribbean, to hiking in the Himalayas. Don loved books and music, dogs and cats, running, water skiing, beaches, mountains, and, of course, popsicles. Above all, he was devoted to his family and will long be remembered simply as “Grampy.”
Don is survived by his beloved wife, Betty Kintz; daughters, Jennifer Malone, Mary Koehler, and Holly Kintz; grandchildren, Elizabeth Schneider, Michael Koehler, and Taylor Malone; great-grandchildren, Ben and Ava Schneider; and siblings, Ed Kintz, Larry Kintz, Loretta Clay, and Terry Locke. He was preceded in death by his parents, Jack and Arlene Kintz, and younger brother, Vic Kintz.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, November 14, 2026, at 10:30 a.m. at the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses, located at 16672 Woodgate Road, Montrose, Colorado.
