Obituary

Darius William “Bill” DeVries passed away peacefully early Sunday morning, October 4, 2026, at his home. He was 86 years old.

Bill was born in 1940 in Montrose, Colorado, to William “Bill” DeVries and Gladys Bannon DeVries. He graduated from high school in Olathe, Colorado. In 1959, he married his wife, LeEyla June Inman, and together they built a life rooted in family, hard work, and devotion.

Bill and LeEyla lived in Montrose, Colorado, before making their home on Orchard Mesa in Grand Junction, Colorado. For 60 years, Bill worked as a produce farmer alongside his wife and family. Through their dedication, they created a lasting legacy on the land and with DeVries Farm Market in the lives of those who knew him.

Bill enjoyed the outdoors, especially hunting and fishing, and he will be remembered for the life he built with his family and the many years of dedication he gave to farming.

Bill is survived by his wife, LeEyla DeVries; his daughters, Stephanie (Tim) Torkelson and Shauna DeVries; his grandchildren, Rick (Chelsey) Wentworth, Aubry (Garrett) Huck, and Eric Torkelson; and six great-grandchildren.

He is preceded in death by his parents, William and Gladys Devries, and his son, Stacey DeVries.

Funeral services will be held at Crippin Funeral Home, 802 East Main Street, Montrose, Colorado, on Saturday, October 17, at 1:00 p.m. A visitation will be held at 12:00 p.m. Burial will follow directly after the service at the Olathe Cemetery.
