A celebration of life will be held at Montrose Christian Church in Montrose, CO, at 9:00am on Saturday, August 29, 2026, followed by a reception. Please bring your stories and memories to share.

Obituary

Cheryl Beth Hokit, age 78, passed away August 11, 2026 at her home in Abbott, TX. She was born on March 18, 1948, to Ralph and Sarah Lloyd who preceded her in death.

She is survived by her husband, Joseph Hokit Sr.; sister, Mary (Don) Tennessen; and son, Sean (Jennifer) Stansberry; grandchildren Zachary Stansberry, Morgan (Niko) Youngren and Audrey (Cesar) Molina; great grandchildren Jayden Youngren, Beth Molina and Maggie Molina; nieces and nephews, in-law families and many close friends who were very special to her.

Cheryl was born and raised in Denver, Colorado. She graduated from Lincoln High School in 1966. After high school, she moved to Memphis, Tennessee, where her son Sean was born. Next was Oxnard, California, where she lived for several years until she moved back to Aurora, Colorado. In 1973, she and her family moved to the Montrose/Olathe area in Colorado where she resided until she retired in 1999.

She earned the designation of Certified Insurance Counselor, was a member of PIIAC, member and past President of the Altrusa Club of Montrose, and a member of Montrose Christian Church. She earned her Bachelor Degree in Business Administration from Colorado Christian University and was part owner of The Insurance Center of Montrose, where she and her son, Sean worked together for several years.

Cheryl retired in 1999, and she and her husband Joe Hokit moved to a ranch in Abbott, Texas. She was a substitute teacher, hospice caregiver and Sunday school teacher. She and her husband Joe were members of the First Baptist Church in West, TX.

She was a devoted wife, a kind sister, a beloved mother, loving grandmother and great-grandmother, a well-respected member of the community and a dear friend to so many. She will live in our hearts and will be missed greatly by those who knew her.

Memorial services will be held at 11:00am, Thursday, August 20, 2026 at the First Baptist Church in West, TX. In addition, a celebration of life will be held at Montrose Christian Church in Montrose, CO, at 9:00am on Saturday, August 29, 2026, followed by a reception. Please bring your stories and memories to share.
