Charles David
Cordova
Jun 29, 1944 — Sep 4, 2026
Parker, Colorado
Charles David Cordova, 82, passed away peacefully on September 4, 2026, surrounded by his family in Parker, Colorado, where he resided at the time of his passing.
Charles was born June 29, 1944, to Luis Martinez and Lola Dolores (Gallegos) Cordova in Montrose, Colorado, where he was raised. As a young man, he took the last name Cordova, having grown up with his stepfather, Ray Cordova.
Charles married his hometown sweetheart, Virginia (Bosgal) Cordova, on June 24, 1966. They were married at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Montrose, Colorado, where they remained lifelong members. Together, Charles and Virginia shared 52 years of marriage before Virginia’s passing in 2018. During their marriage, they also lived for short periods in Elgin, Illinois, and Johnstown, Colorado, before returning to Montrose. Charles later moved to the Castle Rock area to be closer to his children.
Charles began his career as a computer operator and held several jobs before spending many years working for DMEA (Delta-Montrose Electric Association). He eventually retired from WAPA (Western Area Power Administration) in Montrose.
Family was at the heart of Charles’s life. He cherished spending time with his children and grandchildren and especially enjoyed bicycle rides, fishing, and camping - his favorite pastimes. He was always ready for a project around the house and could often be found puttering in his garage. Charles enjoyed playing on softball teams, especially alongside his two sons, and he never missed an opportunity to cheer on two of his favorite teams, the Colorado Rockies and the Los Angeles Dodgers. He also loved learning about his family history through genealogy.
His faith was an important part of his life. Charles was an active member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church, serving in many roles over the years, including Lector, Eucharistic Minister, church bookkeeper, and member of the Knights of Columbus, among others. He believed in giving back and also volunteered with CASA and the prison ministry.
Charles was who family and friends relied on when it mattered most. There are so many things we will remember and miss deeply about him, but perhaps most of all, it will be his wonderful sense of humor and quick, witty comebacks that will continue to bring smiles and laughter to our memories of him.
Charles is survived by his children, James Cordova of Elizabeth, Colorado; Amy (Cordova) Dixon of Castle Rock, Colorado; and Sonny Cordova of Colorado Springs, Colorado; eight grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and his brother, Lloyd Martinez of Sun Lakes, Arizona.
He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Virginia Cordova; his parents, Luis Martinez, Lola Dolores Cordova and Ray Cordova; and his sister, Emily Martinez.
