Barbara of Rainey

Barbara Rainey, 76, passed away on December 27, 2025, at home surrounded by family. She will be remembered as a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and educator who profoundly touched the lives of all she knew.

Barbara Anne James was born in New York City in 1949. Barbara attended Keuka College in Keuka Park, NY, where she earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Education. A lifelong educator, Barbara taught elementary and pre-school in New Mexico, New York, Vermont, and Arizona. Outside of the classroom, she taught all her loved ones how to persevere through hardship as well as bake a delicious cheesecake. She enjoyed reading, traveling, and spending time with her husband, children, and grandchildren.

Barbara married John Rainey in 1973 and enjoyed over 52 years of loving marriage. She is survived by John, her children Heather and Jeffrey and their spouses Jeffrey Brewer and Amber Rainey, grandchildren Hannah, Joseph, Benjamin, Gavin, and Alder, siblings Kirk, Kyle, and Elizabeth, and numerous in-laws, nieces, nephews, and friends who will miss her deeply.

A graveside burial and service will be on Tuesday, January 6, 2025, at 1PM at Grandview Cemetery, Montrose, CO.
