It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Jarrette Allen Beck Jr. (“Doc”), who passed on June 30, 2026, at St. Mary’s Hospital in Grand Junction, Colorado, at the age of 82, surrounded by family.

Allen was born in Milledgeville, Georgia, to J.A. “Jack” Beck Sr. and Agnes Beck, on August 16, 1943, during World War II. As a small child, he lived all over the East Coast as his father served as a Pilot/Navigator in the Army/Air Corps. Eventually the family settled in the Augusta area after the war.

Allen met his future wife, Linda Russell, at Augusta College, where they were freshmen together. They were married in 1965. He then attended the Medical College of Georgia and became a doctor in 1969. In 1970, he joined the Air Force and later went on to be Chief of Emergency Medicine at Anderson Memorial Hospital in Anderson, South Carolina.

Throughout his life, Allen was deeply involved in music and the arts. He played in the local symphony and was involved with theater, while also writing poetry and storytelling. He published books of poetry, cookbooks, plays, and a book of anecdotes from his life. For nearly two decades, he wrote a regular article for the Crested Butte Chronicle/Pilot. After the passing of his wife, Linda, he retired to Montrose, Colorado, to be close to his two sons, daughter-in-law and grandson.

Allen was preceded in death by his wife, Linda. He is survived by his sons, Michael and Eric; his daughter-in-law, Trisha; and his grandson, Gavin. A celebration of life will be held later this year in Crested Butte, Colorado.
