Johnny T. Witt

Johnny T. Witt, age 82, of Montrose, passed away peacefully at his home on Sept. 28, 2011. Johnny was born April 14, 1929 to Nelson and Gertrude (Belveal) Witt at Ordway, Colo. He spent his childhood in the San Luis Valley and graduated from high school in Mosca, Colo. Johnny married Dorothy N. Mogford on April 15, 1950 in Monte Vista, Colo. She preceded him in death on April 21, 2004 in Montrose. Johnny and his family resided in Leadville, Colo. from 1956 until 1975. They then relocated to Montrose in 1975 where they made their home until their time of death. Prior to Johnny’s retirement, he worked in carpentry as a custom Millworker for many years.
Surviving family members include three sons, John Witt of Locust Grove, Okla., Daniel Witt of Grand Junction, Colo., Donald Witt of Loma, Colo; one daughter, Janet Banicki of Montrose; and one brother, Robert Witt of Salt Lake City, Utah; seven grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren. Johnny was preceded in death by his wife, Dorothy. At Johnny’s request, cremation has taken place and private family memorial services will be held at a later date.
