David Blake Wilkins
October 13, 1967 – October 2, 2010
David was born in Raton, New Mexico. His family moved to Boulder, Colorado shortly thereafter. He attended
Fairview High School and went on to graduate from the University of Utah.He earned a degree in Film Studies,
but his actual major was powder skiing at Snowbird. It was there that David met his wife, Carol, in 1991. They
wed in Dec 2003 at the Ski Tip Lodge in Keystone, CO.
Growing up in Boulder and spending much of his childhood in Vail, he became a rippin’ skier, mountain biker, and
was working on becoming a scratch golfer. As a photographer, he was always chasing the light to get “the shot”,
and pretty much always found it. The mountains are where he went to seek solace and peace in his life. He
loved to travel and definitely enjoyed good food and wine. An adventurous and free spirit, he lived his life to
the fullest whenever he possibly could.
David passed suddenly doing what he loved, surrounded by the beauty of the San Juan Mountains. He is
preceded in death by his mother, Diana M. Wilkins. He is survived by his wife, Carol L. of Silverton, CO, father
FD Wilkins of Boulder, CO, sister Charlotte Shifrin of Boulder, CO, brother John Wilkins of Calabasas, CA, nephew
Wesley Shifrin, nieces Savannah Shifrin, Ashley Wilkins and Natalie Shifrin.
A celebration of his life will be held in Silverton, on October 30 at 3pm. A Memorial Fund has been set up in
David’s name at the Bank of The San Juans, 144 E. 8th Street, Durango, CO 81301. The fund will help support
outdoor programs for the children of Silverton. Arrangements are under the direction of Crippin Funeral Home
& Crematory, Montrose, Colorado
