Dorla Dean Vigil
Sept. 17, 1929 — June 27, 2011
MONTROSE — Dorla Dean Vigil, age 81, of Montrose, Colo., went to be with her Heavenly Father, on June 27, 2011. Dorla was born Sept. 17, 1929 to Orval and Melba (Nance) Hancock in Augusta, Kan. Her family moved often throughout her childhood. She met Albert Joe Vigil in Caldwell, Idaho, and they were married Aug. 17, 1950. Dorla and Albert moved to Montrose in 1975 where they made their home until their time of death. Albert preceded her in death on Oct. 23, 2000 in Montrose. For many years, Dorla worked for Russell Stover Candy, until she retired. Her family, children and grandchildren were the light of her life. She enjoyed working with her hands, crocheting and embroidery work, reading books, crossword puzzles and spending time with family.
Surviving family members include her children, Judy Ann Miller of Augusta, Kan., "Gene" (Donna) George of Broken Arrow, Okla., Wayne (Pam) of Oklahoma, Mitchell C. Vigil of Montrose, Karmen (Don) Horkstrom of Moab, Utah, Gloria (Clarence) Dade of Montrose, Darlene (Wayne) Nation of Montrose, Albert Jr., (Sandra) Vigil of Clifton, Colo., DeAnna (Brooks) Vigil of Montrose, Mary Lou (Leroy) Lopez of Moab, Utah; brothers, Don (Darlene) Hancock of Wichita, Kan., Lawanna Smith of Toronto, Kan., Garland Hancock of Augusta, Kan., Emma (Joe) Vigil of Denver, Colo.; 21 grandchildren and 39 great-grandchildren. Dorla was preceded in death by her parents; her husband of 50 years, Albert Vigil; sons-in-law, Fred Mayhew and Lee Miller; grandsons, Mitchell J. Vigil and Shawn Andrew "Nate" Nation.
A visitation for family and friends will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday, July 1, 2011, at Crippin Funeral Home Chapel. A funeral service is scheduled for 11 a.m. Saturday, July 2, 2011, at Crippin Chapel. Interment will follow the service at Grand View Cemetery, west of Montrose. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Hospice & Palliative Care of Western Colorado, in memory of Dorla Vigil, P.O. Box 1804, Montrose, CO 81402.
