Elaine Margaret Trujillo
Elaine M. Campbell was born in Denver Colorado June 26th 1937. She graduated from North High School and attended Western State College in Gunnison where she met the love of her life Andrew Trujillo. They married June 21st 1958 in Salida, CO; spending 41 loving years together.
Elaine and Andy spent several years moving about Colorado pursuing Andy’s teaching career before settling down in Denver. They welcomed their first child Michael Trujillo in 1960 and second child Julie Trujillo (Thomas) in 1967.
Elaine began working part-time as an Ophthalmology insurance specialist in the medical facility at Gates Rubber Company in the 60’s then followed several Doctors into private practice as part of the Colorado Ophthalmology Associates group located in Cherry Creek. She worked there until her retirement in the mid-90’s. Elaine’s passion however was caring for her husband and 2 children. The family was constantly on the move from one sporting event to another, but Elaine managed the stresses of being a working mother with a smile.
The Trujillo family frequently spent time in Lake City during the summer and purchased the cabin on Lake San Cristobal in the summer of 1976. The cabin has undergone several renovations since then and has been and will continue to be the center of many enjoyable family gatherings.
Elaine and Andy moved to Montrose, CO in the fall of 1998 to enjoy retirement and to be closer to Lake City. Sadly, Andy passed away the following year. Elaine continued to cherish her retirement home and the many friends she had made within the neighborhood. She joined the local Montrose sorority Beta Sigma Phi and was engaged in many of their social and philanthropic activities.
Elaine spent the last decade enjoying time with her grandkids Laura and Drew, regularly attending their sporting events. In more recent years, Elaine was dedicated to spending time with her mother, Margaret Rawson Pitney at the Sunrise Creek Retirement facility in Montrose until Margaret’s passing earlier this year.
Elaine was preceded in death by Husband Andrew Trujillo on October 28, 1999. She is also predeceased by father Malcolm Campbell, mother Margaret Rawson Pitney and sister Joan Campbell (Arnold).
Survived by son Michael Trujillo (wife Sandra Trujillo), daughter Julie Trujillo Thomas (husband Dean Thomas); grandchildren Laura and Drew Trujillo.
She is also survived by aunt Celia Rawson Swank, brothers Norman and Don Campbell , 2 nieces, 5 nephews and numerous grand-nieces and nephews.
