She returned to Montrose and worked for the Department of Agriculture (Agriculture, Stabilization and Conservation Service) until her retirement in 1984. She and John were the parents of their only child, Mary Elizabeth. Ella Mae was the proud grandmother of Brandon Rossiter and Julie Boone. Although short, she had a special love for Benjamin and Hannah. Ella Mae was well known for the delicious wedding cakes she made and the receptions she catered.  She enjoyed public speaking and could present a very moving Christmas program as well as tell a joke with the best of them. Ella Mae enjoyed her reading, tying quilts and working on genealogy.
