Robert ‘Bob’ Clark Schiller Jr.

July 15, 1926 ~ October 22, 2011


Robert ‘Bob’ Schiller, age 85, of Olathe, Colo., returned to his Heavenly Father on Saturday, Oct. 22, 2011 at the Montrose Memorial Hospital.  Bob was born July 15, 1926 to Robert Clark and Edna Gertrude (Gerstenlauer) Schiller in Garden Grove, Calif.  He spent his childhood there and graduated from Garden Grove Union High School in the class of 1944.  Bob enlisted in the United States Navy and was honorably discharged in June 1946.  He went on to Colorado State University and earned a degree in Forestry.  Bob married Shirley P. Gearhart on June 22, 1950 in Aztec, N.M.  Their marriage was later solemnized in the Manti, Ut. Temple on Oct. 14, 1972.  Bob was the entrepreneur of Schiller Insurance Agency in Montrose, which is 60 years old and going strong and is now in it’s 3rd

generation of a family owned business.  He was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, where he held numerous callings.  He was a member of the Boy Scouts of America and involved in the John Birch Society.  Bob was an avid outdoorsman.   He loved the mountains and spent much time hunting and fishing there, involving his family and friends whenever possible. Along with his daughter, Rhonda, he climbed all of Colorado’s 14,000 ft. peaks .  Bob was an avid backpacker, snowmobiler and horseback rider.  He could play a mean game of Pinochle, and years ago, was an accomplished Square Dance Caller.  Bob and his wife, Shirley loved to square dance and were members of the Black Canyon Twirlers group. 

Surviving family members include his children, Rhonda Bates of Montrose, Kibbie Ward of Crawford, Colo., Clark Schiller of St. George, Utah, Shauna Brady of Spanish Fork, Utah, Cody Schiller also of Montrose, Colo. He also had 18 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren.  Bob was preceded in death by his parents, wife, Shirley and three sisters.

Bob will always be remembered for his boisterous laugh and sense of humor. It has often been said, “If you can’t find Bob, just stop and listen”. We love you and will miss you, Dad. Until we meet again.

Funeral Services will be held on Saturday, Oct. 29, 2011 at 10:30 am at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Montrose.  A visitation for family and friends will be held at 9:30am prior to the service. Burial will follow the service at the Olathe Cemetery in Olathe, Colo.  Arrangements are under the direction of Crippin Funeral Home & Crematory, Montrose, Co.
