Kevin Martin Rider

MONTROSE — Kevin Martin Rider, age 39, of Montrose, passed away Saturday, April 30, 2011, at the University Hospital in Denver after a lengthy illness. Kevin was born Oct. 5, 1971, to Kenneth Martin Rider and Robyn Hartung Westergaard in Montrose. He spent his childhood in Montrose and Hooper, Neb. and graduated from Logan View Junior Senior High School in 1990, in Hooper, Neb. Kevin was a very proud United States Marine from 1990 to 1996. He loved his family, and his two children meant the world to him. Kevin enjoyed the outdoors and the mountains. He would spend time hunting, fishing and riding horses in the mountains with his dad.
Surviving family members include his mother, Robyn and Gene Westergaard and father, Kenneth and Vicki Rider of Montrose; stepfather, Greg Hartung of Arlington, Neb.; one son, Sheldon Rider and one daughter, Makalyn Rider, both of Montrose; brother, Toby Hartung of Scribner, Neb.; sister, Dana Johnson of Montrose; and stepsisters, Jamie and Cody.
A memorial service in celebration of Kevin’s life will be held at 10 a.m. Friday, May 6, 2011, at Montrose Christian Church. A graveside service with military honors will follow the service at Valley Lawn Cemetery, south of Montrose. Arrangements are under the direction of Crippin Funeral Home, 802 E.
