BLACKFOOT, Idaho — John Leonard Nation, 84, of Blackfoot, Idaho, passed away on Sunday, April 3, 2011, at the Eastern Idaho Regional Medical Center in Idaho Falls from pneumonia. He was born Feb. 21, 1927, to Cynthia and Thomas Nation in Parklin, Okla. He married Elsie Bellgardt on May 19, 1945, in Montrose, Colo. Elsie and John had two children, John Jr. and Loretta. They moved to Preston, Idaho in 1951, and shortly after to Blackfoot, where they have resided ever since, with exception of two years in which they moved back to Montrose, Colo. John was foreman for Blackfoot Motors Supply Shop for 20 years and then opened and operated his own shop, John’s Auto Body for 20 years. He retired in 1992. After retirement, John delivered Meals On Wheels for 17 years receiving the President's Volunteer Service award in 2003. He was in the Army from 1945-1949 and was a World War II veteran.
John is survived by his two children, John L. (Nancy) Nation Jr. of Blackfoot and Loretta Moses of Idaho Falls; two grandchildren, Stephanie (Jim) Liddle of Idaho Falls and Scott (Bonnie) Moses of Victor; five great-grandchildren, Shaylee, Tayla, Jaiden Liddle and Hannah and Cora Moses. He was preceded in death by his loving wife of 65 years, Elsie Nation; his parents; and six sisters and five brothers. In lieu of flowers, a contribution can be made to Meals on Wheels Program, Area Agency on Aging Region 10, 300 N. Cascade Ave. No. 1, Montrose, CO 81401.
A funeral service will be held at 3 p.m. Saturday, April 16, 2011, at Crippin Funeral Home Chapel with visitation one hour prior to the services. Interment will be at Grand View Cemetery in Montrose. Military honors will be presented by the local D.A.V., V.F.W., American Legion and The Colorado Army National Guard Honor Guard. Arrangements are under the direction of Crippin Funeral Home, 802 E.
