Joe J. McBride

Joe J. McBride, of Montrose, passed away Sunday morning, July 17, 2011, at his residence in Spring Creek Chalet, at the age of 93.
Joe J. McBride, the son of Vernie and Carrie (Kidwell) McBride, was born on Oct. 17, 1917 in Fleming, Colo.
During WWII, Joe was proud to serve his country in the US Army, 3rd Division, in North Africa, Anzio and Sicily.
On Dec. 27, 1945, Joe entered into marriage and lifetime partnership with the love of his life, Edna N. Young, at Ft. Smith, Ark. Joe and Edna had the privilege of sharing 58 wonderful years of marriage. Joe worked at the Yuma Proving Grounds as a mechanic, testing army equipment in Yuma, Ariz. in the summer and Ft. Churchill, Canada, in the winter months. He then started working for the FAA building roads to their sites. They have lived in Montrose on and off since 1957. Joe retired as a heavy equipment operator for the Bureau of Reclamation in Montrose. Joe loved being with his family, fishing, hiking, traveling and hunting. He went elk hunting for the last time, at the age of 89. Joe and Edna traveled for over 20 years in their RV. After Edna passed away, he continued to pull his fifth wheel RV to Arizona for the winter and back to Colorado for the summer until the age of 92.
Surviving family members who were honored to share Joe's life include his children: Ethel (Stan) Lutz of Montrose, Colo., Joyce (Larry) Catlin of Monte Vista, Colo. and Mike (Lorinda) McBride of Montrose, Colo. Joe was the proud grandfather of eight grandchildren: Shonda (Tom) Percival of Gunnison, Colo., Jay D. Lutz of Montrose, Colo., Bradly (Lori) Catlin of Monte Vista, Colo., B. J. Catlin of Longmont, Colo., Jason Olin, Windy Perry, Desirea (Adam) Crocker, all of Montrose, Colo., and Amber McBride of Philadelphia; 11 great-grandchildren: Trey and Shay Percival, Kyle, Kelvin and Emily Catlin, Chloe and Elizabeth Perry, and Zain, Raynne, Liberty and Gavin Crocker. Other family survivors include one sister, Myrtle White of Montrose, Colo.; and one brother, Kenneth McBride of Casa Grande, Ariz. Joe was preceded in death by his loving wife, Edna McBride; his parents, Vernie and Carrie McBride; three sisters and six brothers. A memorial service in loving remembrance of Joe's life will be officiated at 2 p.m. Saturday, at the Montrose Christian Church. The service will conclude at the church.
