Robert Lester Long
August 22, 1947 – December 16, 2011
Robert was born August 22, 1947 in Del Norte, Colorado to Lester and Dorothy (Beiriger) Long. Robert grew up in the San Luis Valley of Colorado, graduating from Monte Vista High School. He met and later married his best friend and love, Francine Tipton. They recently celebrated 34 years together. Robert died at home after a brief and valiant fight with cancer, surrounded by his loving family.
Robert adored his family and the moments spent with them. He especially treasured his two newest additions, grandsons Ryker and Jacob. Robert was an adventurous soul, always ready to take on any new challenge, whatever it was. Robert did not take love in this world for granted. He not only made friends with all likes of people and strangers, but he loved them too. His family boasts that he could fix anything with nothing. He loved the great outdoors, hunting, fishing, and sailing. He also acquired his private pilot’s license. Robert owned and operated Long’s Earthworks.
Robert is survived by his wife, Fran, his sons Jay of Denver, Scott of Montrose, and a daughter Amber (Matt) Hasse of Montrose. He is also survived by his beloved mother, Dorothy of Monte Vista, brothers Patrick of Monte Vista and John of Lake Blackshear, GA as well as his two grandsons. Robert is preceded in death by his father Lester.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Wednesday, December 21, 2011 at Remingtons at the Bridges at 1:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be made in Robert’s name to Hospice and Palliative Care of Western, Colorado, P.O.
