Bernice Ann Lara

OLATHE — Bernice Ann Lara, age 84, of Olathe, Colo., passed away Monday, May 9, 2011, at Valley Manor Care Center in Montrose. Bernice was born July 13, 1926, to Emilio and Ramonsita (Martinez) Gallegos in Montrose, Colo. She spent her childhood and received her education in Montrose. Her last year in high school was spent at San Pedro High in California during WWII. Bernice went on to Business College in Denver, Colo. She married Cyrilo Vigil, and he preceded her in death. Bernice then married Hector Lara, and they have celebrated 44 years together. Bernice was a computer programmer for many years. Bernice worked at the Olathe Accounting Center and found time to sell real estate prior to her retirement. She was the champion fisherwoman on many of their camping and fishing trips together. Bernice was very active in bowling and enjoyed swimming, hiking and being with her family. She was an active member of Calvary Chapel in Montrose and enjoyed volunteering for Hospice. Bernice will be greatly missed by her family and friends.
Surviving family members include her husband, Hector of the family home in Olathe; daughters, Glorianna (Leroy) Aragon of Mt. View, Wyo., Yvonne Muzzy of Olathe, Colo.; stepchildren, Cindy Green and Sandra Grow of California, Julie Murray of New Hampshire, Stephanie Dyment of Massachusetts, Mark Lara of New Hampshire; sister, Mary Miller of California and numerous nieces and nephews all over the United States; six grandchildren, Renee (Scott) Eastman of Evanston, Wyo., Rebecca (Brian) Moore of Draper, Utah; Juan (Michele) Aragon of Evanston, Wyo., Randy Vette, Eric Vette, and Amber Vette of Olathe, Colo. and six great-grandchildren. Bernice was preceded in death by her son, Larry Vigil; her parents, Emilio and Ramonsita (Martinez) Gallegos; and two sisters, Ruth Ferris and Helen Kelly.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Bosom Buddies, P.O. Box 1263, Montrose, CO 81402. A visitation for family and friends will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. Thursday, May 12, at Crippin Funeral Home Chapel.
