Elaine Stephens LaForge

1930 — 2011

 

CIMARRON — Elaine Stephens LaForge of Cimarron, Colo. passed away peacefully early Tuesday morning, June 14, 2011, at the Valley Manor Care Center in Montrose.

She was born to Harry J. and Alice Stephens on July 9, 1930 in Birmingham, Mich. Elaine was the oldest of three children and raised in Rochester, Mich., where she graduated from Rochester High School in 1948. She had been married to her high school sweetheart, Don LaForge, for 62 years.

Don and Elaine moved their family to Panaca, Nev. in 1963, where all four daughters graduated from high school. Don and Elaine made their home for the past 20 years in Cimarron, Colo., where they have been blessed by many good friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her brother, Robert (Bob) Stephens; and grandson, John Buschman. She is survived by her husband, Don; and her brother, Paul Stephens, as well as four daughters: Margaret (Marty) Buschman, Carol LaForge, Debbie (Ted) Woolston and Sandra (David) Carruthers, along with two adopted daughters, Jan Cox and Brenda Holt. Elaine leaves a legacy of 17 grandchildren, 35 great-grandchildren, and one great-great-granddaughter.

For the past two years, Elaine has received loving care from the staff at Valley Manor Care Center in Montrose, and the family asks, in lieu of flowers, donations may be made to The Volunteers of America, at www.voa.org, in loving memory of Elaine LaForge.

A memorial service in loving memory of Elaine will be held at 2 p.m. Monday, June 20, 2011, at Crippin Funeral Home Chapel. The service will conclude at the chapel. Condolences may be sent to the family at www.crippinfuneralhome.com
