
Girts Krumins

Girts was born in Dauguapils, Latvia in 1932. He fled Latvia with his family, when the Soviets invaded that country. They lived in Displaced Persons Camps in Germany, until they immigrated to his adopted country, the United States of America, in 1951. Girts settled in Denver, where he met his first, beloved wife, Ina Rundiks, who died in 1987.
Girts worked in various positions to support his family, while he studied business and law in night school. He was licensed to practice law in 1964 and became a registered professional engineer in 1967.
Girts held various positions at Public Service Company of Colorado , the Colorado Public Utilities Commission of Colorado, and Colorado-Ute Electric Association, Inc., where he last served as President and Chief Executive Officer. After his retirement from Colorado-Ute, Girts was honored to be appointed and confirmed, as a representative of Latvians residing in the West, to the Central Election Commission of Latvia. As a member of the Commission, he helped supervise the first free, democratic elections, held in Latvia in 1993, after that country regained its independence from the Soviet Union.
Girts enjoyed his family, gardening, fishing and hiking. He is survived by his wife, Carol Curran, of Montrose; a daughter, Sarma Retchloff and her husband, Dan of Wister, Okla; and a son, Arnie Rundiks, and his wife, Evie of Denver, Colo; seven grandchildren, eight great grandchildren, and two great-great-grandchildren.
Girts was preceded in death by his Father, Janis Krumins, his Mother, Zelma Zupe Krumins, one Brother and one Sister, and his first wife, Ina Krumins.
