Robert ‘Dean’ Knickerbocker

NUCLA — Robert "Dean" Knickerbrocker, age 61, of Nucla, Colo., died Dec. 5, 2010 from injuries sustained in an automobile accident. Dean was born May 5, 1949 to Roy and Charleen Knickerbocker in Colorado Springs, Colo. He spent his childhood and graduated from Nucla High School. Dean went on to college at the University of Northern Colorado in Greeley, Colo. then returned to Nucla. He married Phyllis Erwin Jan. 26, 2002 in Naturita. Dean had previously married Lynette Oxford and Cheryl Thompson. He attended the West End Community Church in Naturita. He loved playing the piano and reading. Dean spent time on crossword puzzles, and enjoyed spending time with his dogs, especially Nikki. His grandchildren and great-grandchild were very special to Dean.
Surviving family members include his wife, Phyllis of the family home in Nucla; his mother, Charlene Knickerbocker of Nucla; three daughters, Kathy Edrington of Clarksburg, Md., Melissa Cooke of New Orleans, La., Anna Costello of Queen Creek, Ariz.; stepson, Kevin (Christina) Starks of Naturita; two stepdaughters, Kimberly (Mike) Searcy of Fruita, Colo., Koleen (Brian) Montano of Farmington, N.M.; a sister, Mary Helen Mendelson of Grand Junction, Colo; nine grandchildren and one great-grandchild. Dean was preceded in death by his father, Roy Knickerbocker. Private family services were held. Arrangements were under the direction of Crippin Funeral Home, 802 E.
