Irene Rougas Ingle

MONTROSE — Irene Rougas Ingle was born in Pueblo, Colo. on June, 12, 1921, the daughter of John and Airaterina Rougas. She graduated from Central High in Pueblo in 1938. The following summer she spent in Santa Fe, N.M. teaching a class in beginning Greek. When the German and Italian armies invaded Greece, she managed the Greek War relief office in Colorado Springs. She worked in her father's grocery store until she moved to Colorado Springs in 1959. She worked at the Penrose Cancer Hospital, first as a medical librarian and then as a secretary to Juan del Regato, M.D., who was the directory of the Cancer Hospital. There she met Don Ingle who was the superintendent of the renovation of the Glockner Penrose Hospital. Don went on to work at the Glen Canyon Dam and she joined him there and worked for the Bureau of Reclamation and the National Park Service. They both retired and moved to Montrose in 1974. She was aked to return to work for the Black Canyon of the Gunnison. Don passed away in 1980, and she retired in 1982.
After retirement, she served on the Victim Compensation Board of the 7th Judicial District for 6 years. She was a member of the Montrose Women's Republican Party and St. Paul's Episcopal Church and later St. Stephens Reformed Episcopal Church. She worked part time for Mountain View Travel and Del-Monte Consultants.
Irene was preceded in death by her parents; her step-mother, Amelia; her three brothers, George, Jon and Peter; and three sisters, Georgia, Harriet and Norma; and her stepsons, Warren Ingle and Donald R. Ingle. Irene is survived by her brother, Dean (Allura); a sister, Elaine Scott; and step-daughter, Patti (Matt) Flynn; and many nieces and nephews, step-grandchildren and their families.
Irene enjoyed her friends, travel, reading, crossword puzzles and Italian Opera.
A memorial service, in loving memory of Irene, will be held at 9:30 a.m. Wednesday, March 16, 2011, at St. Stephens Reformed Episcopal Church, 2405 Sunnyside Rd., Montrose. Local arrangements are under the direction of Crippin Funeral Home, Montrose.
The Trisagion will take place at 7 p.m. Thursday, March 17, 2011, at the Shrine of Remembrance in Colorado Springs. A funeral service to honor Irene will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, March 18, 2011, at the Shrine of Remembrance.
