Richard Leo Heroux, 70, of Montrose and Middleville, Michigan, passed away peacefully at the Hospice and Palliative Care Center in Grand Junction on June 3, 2012.
He was preceded in death by his dear son, Matthew Leo and is survived by his wife and best friend of 47 years, Marie, sons Brett Joseph (Shirley) of Olathe, KS and Christopher Richard (Jennifer) of Dublin, CA , daughter in law Theresa of Highland Lakes, NJ. and grandchildren Alec, Joshua, Nika and Julia Eva. He is also survived by his parents, Leo and Eva of Lake George, NY, brothers Gary (Mary) of Lovell, ME and Leo F. (Marion) of E Nassau, NY, mother-in-law Julia Avonovich of Grand Junction, sister-in-law Jean (Richard) Buchan of Parachute, and several nieces and nephews.
A native of Cohoes, NY, he lived life to the fullest and faced challenges with determination and a positive attitude. He held degrees from Clarkson University and Rensselear Polytechnic Institute and operated an Insurance Agency.
Along with the pleasures of family and extraordinary friends, Richard loved an active lifestyle especially skiing, sailing, and biking. His favorite volunteer efforts included literacy programs, tutoring and soup kitchen work. In recent years the Spanish language became a special hobby.
According to his wishes, cremation has taken place. A Mass of the Resurrection will be celebrated on June 16 at 10 a.m. at St. Daniel’s Church in Ouray followed by a reception at Cobble Creek Clubhouse in Montrose from 12 to 2. If friends are unable to attend the Mass in Ouray you are still welcome to attend the reception. Burial will take place in Grand View Cemetery.
