Neyl Janice Webster Heinschel

May 10, 1919 ~ November 16, 2011

“Wherever a beautiful soul has been, there lies a trail of beautiful memories.”

Neyl Janice Webster Heinschel was a gift to everyone who knew her and a beautiful soul who left beautiful memories in the hearts of friends and family.  Her smile, indescribable eyes and quirky sense of humor will not be forgotten.  Neyl was born in Hulett, Wyo. on May 10, 1919 to Joseph Vinton and Aouida Karene Wood Webster and raised in Chadron, Neb.  Her interests included playing the piano, singing and dancing, particularly tap dancing, designing clothes for her huge collection of paper dolls, needlework, crossword puzzles and playing bridge, rummy, Tripoli and Parcheesi.  A lifelong Episcopalian, Neyl graduated from Chadron Prep High School and Chadron State Teachers College and worked first as a teacher in Nebraska and then as a bank bookkeeper.  She also taught tap, ballet and acrobatic dancing.

On Mar. 26, 1943, Neyl went to a USO dance where she met Mike (Eldon) Heinschel and she married him two years later.  Most of their married life was spent in Green River, Wyo., or Green River in the summer and Mesa, Ariz. in the winter.  They traveled extensively and often stayed with one of Neyl’s many, many cousins, who live all over the U.S.  Highlights of Neyl’s life were hunting trips with Mike, camping with her children and grandchildren and traveling to Alaska, Hawaii, the Holy Land and Germany.  She made a warm, secure loving home for her family and remembered everyone’s birthday and anniversary.

In 2004, Neyl and Mike moved to Montrose, Colo., to be closer to family.  She was a member of All Saints Anglican Church in Montrose and a longtime member of Eastern Star.  Neyl was preceded in death by her devoted husband of 66 years, Mike, her parents, her brother, Morris Webster and great-grandson, Patrick Alexander Lujan.  She is survived by her sister, JoAnn Webster Schaeffer, son, Kay J. Heinschel, loving daughter-in-law, Sue Hansen, daughter, Janice Heinschel Lujan, son-in-law, Ronald J. Lujan, grandchildren, Ira L., Erik J. and Gabriel J. Lujan and Joel and Janel Heinschel Long and great-grandchildren, Carson, Cole and Garret Long, Jacquelin, Makayla and Robert Lujan, Colette and Kies Heinschel, numerous nieces and nephews.

Neyl is being cremated.  A celebration of the lives of Neyl and Mike will be celebrated as a later time.  In lieu of flowers, please watch an old musical and have a bowl of ice cream with chocolate sauce and M&M’s.  Donations may also be sent in Neyl’s name to the Shriners Hospital, Fairfax Road at Virginia St., Salt Lake City, Utah, 84103.  Arrangements are under the direction of Crippin Funeral Home & Crematory, Montrose, Co.
