Frank Gerstner

MONTROSE — Frank Gerstner, a resident of Montrose, Colo., passed away June 18, 2011, at Sunrise Creek Assisted Living, at the age of 90. Frank was born Oct. 22, 1920 to Manuel and Mary (Ludwig) Gerstner in Holcomb, Kan. In 1942, at the age of 21, he enlisted and served his country in the United States Army. He was a trained welder and fabricator for a metal company prior to his retirement and had resided in Henderson, Nev. since 1955. He moved to Montrose in 1985, where he made his home until his time of death. Frank attended Grace Community Church, until his health declined a few years ago. He enjoyed horseback riding, hunting and fishing. A favorite pastime was playing his guitar for family and friends. Frank was preceded in death by his parents, four brothers and one sister.
Surviving family members include one son, Greg Gerstner, of Henderson, Nev. Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice and Palliative Care of Western Colorado, P.O. Box 1804, Montrose, CO 81402. A graveside service, with military honors, will be held at 3:30 p.m. Thursday, June 23, 2011, at Grand View Cemetery, west of Montrose, with Minister Calvin Schwarz officiating.
