Milton (Milt) LeRoy Freeburg

April 30, 1928 ~ August 9, 2011

Milton (Milt) LeRoy Freeburg, age 83, of Palisade, Colo.,  went to be with his Heavenly Father, on Tuesday, Aug. 9, 2011 at the V.A. Community Living Center in Grand Junction, Colo.  Milt was born Apr. 30, 1928 to Rufus and Marie (Kemnitz) Freeburg in Newman Grove, Neb.  He spent his childhood there, but received his high school education in Chicago, Ill.  Milt married his wife, Pat on June 24, 1953 in Chicago.  Milt served his country in the United States Army from 1950 to 1952 as a postal worker and was honorably discharged at the age of 28.

Prior to moving to Montrose, Colo., Milt was a Department Supervisor for the Sears and Roebuck Catalog Distribution Center in Chicago, Ill., for 25 years.  In 1976, Milt and Pat, and their three girls moved to Montrose, Colo., where they owned and operated The Western Motel for three years.  In 1979, they and their two youngest daughters moved to Grand Junction, Colo., where he held various jobs over the next 19 years.  In 2005, Milt and Pat moved to Palisade, where he enjoyed full retirement until the dear Lord called him home.  Milt thoroughly enjoyed his pheasant hunting trips to Newman Grove, Neb., with his dad, sons and brothers.  He had a great sense of humor and was always ready with his quick wit.  Family remembers, that dad always made sure we spent our outings and free time with our rather large, extended family.  Many weekends were spent traveling to the family farm in Apple River, Ill., where we gathered regularly.  Dad trusted the Lord as his personal Savior in his mid thirties.  He loved God’s Word and sharing the gospel with others.  He would always ask his children and grandkids, “What’s the good word”?  the answer, being John 3:16

Surviving family members include his beloved wife of 58 years, Pat Freeburg of Palisade; sons, Terry (Pam) Freeburg of Countryside, Ill., Kurt (Karen) Freeburg of Grand Junction, Colo; daughters, Gail (Marty) Riggan of Montrose, Colo., Dawn (Ernie) Farris and Denise Freeburg all of Grand Junction, Colo; brother, James Freeburg, of W. Palm Beach, Fla; a sister, Arlene Flack of Rockford, Ill; 14 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.  In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Grand Junction V.A. Hospice/Community Living Center.  A Funeral Service will be held on Saturday, Aug. 13, 2011 at 2:00 pm at the Victory Baptist Church on North Townsend with Rev.  Marty Riggan officiating.  A Graveside Service with Military Honors by the D.A.V., V.F.W., and Army National Guard, Honor Guard will follow the service at Grand View Cemetery, West of Montrose.  Arrangements are under the direction of Crippin Funeral Home & Crematory, Montrose, Colo.
