Delbert Frasier

Delbert Frasier, age 84, passed away Feb. 9, 2012 under hospice loving care while at Valley Manor Rest home after a lengthy illness. Delbert was born Aug. 10, 1927 in Montrose, Co., to Elwin G. and Glendola (Marple) Frasier. He was the fourth of five sons. Delbert spent his childhood at the home place on Spring Creek Mesa. In 1954 Delbert joined the Army Air Corp. and served during World War II in the South Pacific. He was discharged in 1947 and returned to Montrose. On Dec. 21, 1947 he married Barbara (Bobbie) Schmaljohn.
Delbert worked for Farmers Union, Ute Mills and Vurl’s Farm Supply. While working for Farmers Union and Ute Mills he was the first to put feedlot cattle on a special feed mix. He was active in the Woolgrowers Association, Citizens Committee and Fair Board. His recreational activities included playing softball with his brother, Harold, and other friends in the Spring Creek area, including the Roberts. He played catcher for the 1953 Elks Championship team. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, camping and especially the 4th of July
picnics when the entire Frasier family would gather on Grand Mesa to celebrate Elwin’s birthday.
Delbert is survived by daughter, Sharon Reed, son Steven (Kathy) Frasier; four grandsons, Del Bret (Tracey) Reed and Bryan (Jodi) Reed, of Montrose, Shaun (Miranda) Frasier of Olathe, Joshua Frasier of Montrose; and seven great-grandchildren. He is also survived by one brother, Harold (Betty) Frasier of Montrose, sister in law, Gwendolyn Frasier and numerous nieces and nephews. Delbert was preceded in death by his wife, one daughter, his parents, three brother and a great granddaughter. Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice & Palliative Care of Western Colorado, P.O. Box 1804, Montrose, Co. 81402. A visitation for family and friends will be held on Tuesday, Feb. 14, 2012 from 6:00 to 8:00pm at Crippin Funeral Home Chapel. A Funeral Service will be held on Wednesday, Feb. 15, 2012 at 2:00 p.m. at Crippin Chapel. A Graveside Service with Flag presentation will follow at Valley Lawn Cemetery, South of Montrose. Arrangements are under the direction of Crippin Funeral Home & Crematory, Montrose, Co.
