Mary S. Favela

OLATHE — Mary S. Favela, age 83, of Olathe, Colo., went to be with her Lord on June 29, 2011 at her home in Olathe. Mary was born Sept. 17, 1927 to Audoro and Lonicia Archuleta in Gallina, N.M. She spent her childhood in the San Luis Valley. She married Bonnie Valdez, and he preceded her in death in 1975. Mary married Tomas Favela in Dec. 1976, and they shared 34 years of marriage. She was a hard worker and enjoyed the outdoors and mountains. Mary was an excellent cook and she enjoyed spending time with her family, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was a member of the women’s knitting club and enjoyed working with her hands, doing crocheting and knitting.
Surviving family members include her beloved husband, Tomas Favela of the family home in Olathe; sons, Alphonso (Mary) Valdez of Montrose, Alonso (Pat) Valdez of Rapid City, S.D.; daughter, Molly (Rick) Moulton of Montrose; brother, Eugene Gonzales of Albuquerque, N.M; two sisters, Dora Romero of Grand Junction, Colo., Francis Chavez of Ojos, N. M; granddaughters, Jessica Duarte, Bonnie Valdez, Rebecca Valdez; grandsons, Vincent Mick, Al Valdez, Benjamin Moulton, Andrew Hartzel, Matthew Valdez; eight great-granddaughters and three great-grandsons.
A visitation for family and friends will be held from 4 to 6 p.m. Monday, July 4, 2011, at Crippin Funeral Home Chapel. A funeral service is scheduled for 10 a.m. Tuesday, July 5, 2011, at Crippin Chapel with Father Mike Walker officiating. Burial will follow the service at Olathe Cemetery, in Olathe, Colo.
